Connor Mertz, M.S.

Connor joined WSE as a Junior Geomorphologist in the summer of 2025. He earned his undergraduate degree in Environmental Science from Montana State University, where he focused on hydrology and soils, and went on to complete a Master’s in Fluvial Geomorphology at Colorado State University.

Connor’s graduate research centered on developing a geomorphic context-based prioritization framework to guide restoration efforts along Upper Colorado River tributaries in Rocky Mountain National Park. His work involved multi-scale geomorphic assessments using field surveys, modeling, and geospatial analysis to identify drivers of channel incision and floodplain disconnection. He’s excited to apply his background to read landscapes and better understand how wood, sediment, and water interact to shape riverscapes.

Outside of work, Connor enjoys most things outdoors—especially biking and skiing—and is looking forward to diving into the world of river snorkeling in the Pacific Northwest.
